At 7:30 pm, this coming Friday, January 17, Santa Catalina School will present the opening night performance of its Winter Play Stage Door. This play revolves around a group of young girls who have come to New York to study acting and find jobs. The setting is Mrs. Orcutt’s boarding house in 1936, where the hopes and ambitions of 16 young women are revealed. The plot centers on the courageous Terry Randall, who fights against discouragement one audition at a time.

One of her fellow aspirants goes into pictures, one gives up in despair, and one gets married, but Terry, with the help of idealistic David Kingsley, sticks to her guns. Contrasted are the cases of the girl without talent; the elderly actress whose days are over; Mattie, the maid; a few young men callers; a movie magnate; and young Keith Burgess, the playwright who “goes Hollywood.”
