Antón de la Fuente, Jane Yang, Luke Kim, Sarah Girges & Holly Hadsall
On Saturday afternoon, November 7, we had an opportunity to hear the five young pianists who placed in the 2015 Paderewski Youth Competition performing in the Grand Ballroom of the Paso Robles Inn. There was so much raw talent among these five young pianists that you could see how difficult it was for the three jurors to select the top winners. In the order of performance we heard the following winners:
Holly Hadsell, 10, from Santa Barbara, a pupil of Lana Bodnar, performed Prokofiev’s Prelude in C Major, Op. 12, No. 7. She was awarded Third Place in the Junior Division
Sarah Girges, 10, a pupil of Dr. Lynne Garrett, performed Chopin’s Waltz in A Minor, Op 34, No. 2. She was awarded Second Place in the Junior Division.
Luke Kim, 14, from the Santa Barbara area, a pupil of Dr. Egle Janulevicute, performed Chopin’s Polonaise in A Major, Op. 40. He was awarded First Place in the Junior Division
Jane Yang, 15, from Monterey, a pupil of Lyn Bronson, performed the first movement of Haydn’s Sonata in E Minor, Hob. XVII/34 and Paderewski’s Minuet in G Major, Op. 14, No. 1. She was awarded Second Place in the Senior Division.
Antón de la Fuente, 16, from Monterey, a pupil of Lyn Bronson, performed Bach’s Prelude & Fugue n D Minor WTC, Book II, and Chopin’s Ballade No. 1 in G Minor. He was awarded First Place in the Senior Division.
Joel Peterson acted as moderator and host and introduced to the audience Consul General Mariusz M. Brgymora from the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland. Together they awarded medals to each of the winners.
